Complete this sentence: “If you liked _____ or ______, you’ll like my film.”
Pumping Iron or Gummo
If forced to choose a different role in making this film, what would it have been and why?
Boom operator would have been less stressful.
If you were an X-Men, which would you be and why?
Wolverine - The hair
What's the most challenging part of making a film for you? Do you enjoy that challenge, or is it something to be avoided?
Starting a film is the hardest part. It's less enjoyment and more compulsion.
What were you doing in 1976?
Name three films you consider under-appreciated and explain their hidden genius.
If we're talking recent films, I would say: Tangerine, Spring Breakers, and Don Verdean.
- I don't think a lot of people gave Tangerine a chance, since it was shot on iPhone, but there's a fresh, raw voice in that story. Unlike almost everything out there.
- Spring Breakers is just a Korine meta-joke that went over many people's heads. You need to be familiar with his work to appreciate it
- Don Verdean is amazing. I think it was just too edgy for most Christians and not inclusive enough for other audiences. Deadpan religious satire is a tough market.
You're building a grilled cheese with three different cheeses. What do you use?
Gruyere and sharp cheddar - Because Alton Brown said so.
Of the filmmakers working today, whose talent would you most like to steal?
Why did you submit your film to the Atlanta Film Festival?
It's my hometown festival and I love to be a part of it.
