If forced to choose a different role in making this film, what would it have been and why?
Cinematographer; I wish I could film as well as my DP
If you were an X-Men, which would you be and why?
Sage, for her intellectual abilities and infinite recall.
What about Atlanta are you most excited to see?
Atlanta Film Festival films!!
Why did you submit your film to the Atlanta Film Festival?
Because it came highly recommended!
What's the most challenging part of making a film for you? Do you enjoy that challenge, or is it something to be avoided?
Fundraising. I don't enjoy it, but it's unavoidable. Films are expensive!
Name three films you consider under-appreciated and explain their hidden genius.
"What Dreams May Come" (imaginative + Herzog cameo!)
"Buddha Mountain" (teen angst with soul by a female filmmaker; and what's up with Criterion's shamefully nonexistent Chinese cinema collection btw?)
"The Day He Arrives" (because any Hong Sang-soon film, really)
What were you doing in 1976?
Deciding on my next corporeal incarnation
You're building a grilled cheese with three different cheeses. What do you use?
Havarti, marscopone, string
Complete this sentence: “If you liked _____ or ______, you’ll like my film.”
Eraserhead; Only God Forgives
Of the filmmakers working today, whose talent would you most like to steal?
At the moment, Robert Eggers, because I just watched "The Witch" and really liked his abilities in historical recreation and atmosphere.
