ATL Film Fest Alum goes "Up"

Posted by Dan Krovich in Untagged

Thomas McCarthy, who was at the 2008 Atlanta Film Festival with the Closing Night film The Visitor, apparently had a hand in Pixar's latest film, Up, which opens tomorrow.  /Film reports that McCarthy is a co-screenwriter on the Pixar film.  He was brought in to write a couple drafts when co-writer and co-director was called away for a while to work on Ratatouille.

McCarthy has also kept busy as an actor since winning an Independent Spirit Award for The Visitor.  He has already appeared alongside Julia Roberts in Duplicity and will be seen in Peter Jackson's upcoming adaptation of The Lovely Bones.  He will also direct the pilot episode of the HBO Series Game of Thrones, starring Peter Dinklage, to be based on the best-selling "A Song of Ice and Fire" series of novels by George R. R. Martin.

In related news from The Visitor, star Haaz Sleimam who was also at the Closing Night screening, can be seen on the upcoming Showtime Original Series Nurse Jackie with Edie Falco.
