As a native Atlantan, it's always impressed me that we have Georgia Tech, Emory, Spelman, Morehouse, Georgia State, Clark Atlanta and Morris Brown (I know, but till it's gone, gone, I'm including it) in Atlanta. Since those days I first became aware of these institutions, others have come to prominence and have made their mark on our city in a big way, SCAD and AIU are just two that come to mind.
Then it occured to me the other day that if you use GA Tech, Emory and Clark Atlanta and the other HBCU's (Historically Black Colleges & Universities) you get the above configuration. A triangle that might not seem like much till you consider the shear number of events, organizations, companies, parks and entities that exist within that triangle or just on the borders:
Turner, Piedmont Park, Virgina Highlands, Eyedrum, Woodruff Arts Center, High Museum, Centennial Park, Castleberry, Pride, Dogwood, our own Atlanta Film Festival, Whole World, Center for Puppetry Arts, etc.
The list could go much longer, but, I think you catch my meaning.
What if we really played this up, conceptualizing this triangle into something more concrete? The ability to visually describe downtown Atlanta's intellectual and creative capital in these terms would not only be a powerful selling point, it could definitely be a guide for how we approach development, create new initatives, drive intellecutal innovation and support the arts in the future.
