Ridley Scott, Spike Lee, Spike Jonze, David Fincher, David Lynch, Guy Ritchie, Wong Kar-Wai, Michael Gondry, Wes Anderson...Commercial Filmmakers All...No, Literally Commercial Filmmakers.

Ridley Scott's "1984" commercial for the Apple Macintosh is considered one of the most iconic moments of the 1980s. So influential was the spot that most forget its Super Bowl airing was the one and only time it was nationally broadcast.

Mars Blackmon may have made his debut in Spike Lee's groundbreaking She's Gotta Have it, but he became a pop-culture icon in the commercials Spike Lee directed for Nike's Air Jordan line of shoes. The character was so linked with Michael Jordan that when the basketball MVP retired for good in 2003, Nike resurrected the character one final time in his honor.

Even Oscar-winning documentary filmmaker Errol Morris (The Thin Blue Line, The Fog of War) has made a name for himself in the commercial world, directing spots for Adidas, AIG, Cisco Systems, Citibank, Levi's, Miller High Life, Nike, PBS, The Quaker Oats Company, Southern Comfort, Toyota and Volkswagen. His most recognizable work is probably for Apple, directing the memorable Apple Switch ads that featured former PC users explaining why they made the change to Mac's.

What the Atlanta Film Festival, Comcast and IFC want to know, is what would you do if you were challenged to create a :30 second commercial? Would you go classic or avant garde? Shoot one continuous take in grainy black and white, or create an explosion of color and sounds?

The Atlanta Film Festival Challenge 2009 is your opportunity to demonstrate your skills behind the camera and to create a spot that could air on Comcast in the Atlanta market, screen at the 2009 Atlanta Film Festival and win you an amazing array of prizes.
