It's two weeks till Christmas and Hanukkah. Kwanzaa is after that. Then the New Year will be here. Why, oh why should you attend the myriad of parties and mixers out there? For some of you folks, this is a no-brainer. For everyone else, this is a friendly kick in the bootay. If you're trying to really make some connections, this is the best time of the year to get out and be seen. It doesn't matter if you don't drink or have the holiday spirit. Finding that one contact that will magically connect you to every key person and important organization just isn't going to happen for 99% of people. It happens, but it's rare. And you'll be surprised just how many people only show up this time of year--I think the booze and free food has something to do with it. So block out some time and hit a few of these events. Even if you have to pay, go. You just never know what dividends will come from those connections. And at the least, you'll hopefully have a good time.
