WonderRoot's Local Film Series Returns to the Plaza on Thursday, September 24
Fourteen brand new local short films are ready for you to watch next Thursday, September 24 at The Plaza! WonderRoot's Local Film Series returns!
Come check out the latest local film short selections at WonderRoot's Generally Local, Mostly Independent Film Series! Winning filmmakers receive funding to submit their work to other local and national film festivals, as well as a private consultation with a representative from the Atlanta Film Festival. ALL participating filmmakers will receive a fee waiver to submit their short to the Atlanta Film Festival.
This is a fun night for anyone that wants to come support local, independent filmmaking in all of its different forms. Over a dozen short films will be showcased and jury awards will be given out!

WonderRoot is looking for submissions for the fall edition of its Local Film Series! Experimental shorts, documentaries, narratives, animation, music videos, and video art are all considered. Submit by August 21.
WonderRoot is looking for submissions for the fall edition of its Local Film Series! Experimental shorts, documentaries, narratives, animation, music videos, and video art are all considered, as long as they are made in Georgia.
The deadline for submissions is August 21st and the next screening will be on September 24th at the Plaza Theatre. Jury prizes will be awarded and winning filmmakers receive funding to submit their work to other local and national film festivals, as well as a private consultation with the ATLFF's Creative Director, Kristy Breneman, and Senior Shorts Programmer, Christina Humphrey.

WonderRoot's Generally Local, Mostly Independent Film Series is pleased to announce a 'Best of 2014' screening taking place at the High Museum on Friday, December 12 at 7 PM. These films were selected out of all of the films WonderRoot screened throughout the year and were curated by Erin Dougherty of the High Museum. Congratulations to all selected filmmakers!
In addition to the WonderRoot Local Film Series being founded by Atlanta Film Festival Programming Director Kristy Breneman, ATLFF connections abound in this lineup! ATLFF alum include Alex Zhuralov, Brantly Jackson Watts, Nathan Honnold and Cali Berry. Watts also serves as one of out ATLFF Filmmakers-in-Residence. Honnold's film "Thomas Bennett" won the Best Documentary Short Jury Prize at this year's festival. And of course, we can't forget "Starlight" filmmaker Marisa Tontaveetong, who is currently one of our programming associates!

Submit your film by June 20th for the next WonderRoot's Generally Local, Mostly Independent Filmmakers Night on June 26th at The Plaza!
WonderRoot’s Generally Local, Mostly Independent Film Series is back! The latest screening of Atlanta's freshest homemade films takes place Thursday, June 26th at 8:00 PM at The Plaza Theatre. Submissions are now open, but close on June 20th!
They are looking for film submissions including experimental shorts, documentaries, narratives, animation, music videos, and any other type of video art. They are also accepting proposals for live video performances to open or close the screening.
Your entry will be considered for screening at this event. All proceeds from the box office will go into a fund for participating filmmakers to submit their films to festivals.
- No submission fee!
- Deadline for entry: June 20, 2014
- Entries accepted in digital format only
- DVD data file HIGHLY preferred (.mov) or email downloadable link
- Entries should be 20 minutes or less
- Please do not submit your originals as they cannot be returned to you
- Please make sure your video is not available to the general public for online viewing during the submission process
Selected films will be announced no later than June 21th. Plan on attending the screening if your film is selected (and even if not), the more people we can get out the better for all the filmmakers involved!

2014 Atlanta Film Festival to kick-off with WonderRoot's Generally Local, Mostly Independent Filmmakers Night
WonderRoot partners with the Atlanta Film Festival to host WonderRoot’s Generally Local, Mostly Independent Filmmakers Night. The event will kick-start ATLFF on Thursday, March 27th at 8:00 PM at The Plaza Theatre.
WonderRoot is an art based non-profit organization that unites artists and inspires positive social change in the Atlanta community. Through the WonderRoot Community Arts Center, WonderRoot engages the community by hosting arts education programs for youth and adults, music, literary and theater performances.
In efforts to encourage local filmmakers to submit their films to festivals, WonderRoot partners with the Atlanta Film Festival to host WonderRoot’s Generally Local, Mostly Independent Filmmakers Night. The event will kick-start the 2014 Atlanta Film Festival on Thursday, March 27th at 8:00 PM at The Plaza Theatre. Alumni of WonderRoot with films in the 2014 Festival include Nathan Honnold, Darrell Hazelrig, Anna Spence and many more.
Pick up your pre-purchased badges at the Highland Inn Ballroom then head over to The Plaza Theater for Filmmakers Night. The event will feature festival previews and local films. The WonderRoot’s Generally Local, Mostly Independent Filmmakers Night line up will be announced Friday, March 21st.
